Final review!
We started this project quite early, already in November (I think), to brainstorm and build up a concept that would be our final game in the end. It took a couple of months until we started the production, after that we worked in our office everyday.
Our high concept of this game was to make a funny co-op game for young teens, where the players would be depending on each other. The game was directed to teens that like "Tim Burton-ish" games, quite weird but still not a horror game.
Reward: Have fun with your friends and manage the challenges in the game.
Challenges: Cooperate with your friends and solve the puzzels.
Abilities: Every character have their own unique abilities, except from jumping and moving sideways.
Strategy: To recognize where and when your character is needed and to know exactly what to do.
The results of the game was quite good, it looked good and the concept still works but we hade some problems in the end with the mechanics, we hade some bugs that ruined the game experience. But if that would be fixed I think the game would be really great!
My role in the project:
My role in the project was to be the Lead designer, so in the begining there were many decisions to take.
But of course in the end we took the decisions together as a group. It was hard to take the role as a Designer just because we all study "Game design" at the University. So we all a small role as a designer, but subconsciously.
My main activites was to make design decisions and do some small jobs, like 3D models, logo for our game and group name and so on.
I am not that satisfied with my role as Lead designer, it was hard and I don't have that much experience. I really have to explore the role much more to be a good Lead designer. But the work I did except from that I'm happy with. I really love doing 3D models and doing graphic design jobs (I studied graphic design in high school).
I think the final results of the game could be a little bit better if we had more time and had stronger cohesion in the end. But overall i think it's good, I think the game has many possiblities to become something bigger and better.
Skill set improvements:
As I said before I've been working alot with graphic design, so I had much use of it to the project. I could make our logos and help out with the blogs because I have also studied "Web design". I did many odd jobs, I did some small 3D models, I studied "3d-modeling in Maya" at the same time as this project (http://sandrascircus.blogg.se/2011/april/busy-day.html). So I learned alot to do this models.
The last month I started to learn about the program "Unity" that we used, beacuse I was going to import models and textures. I also were going to "decorate" the level with this models, put them at the right places and so on. At the first year of Gotland University we worked with another tool that is similar with Unity, "Torque" is it called. So a little experience do I have on that type of tools.
The end of GGC.
I think this years GGC wasn't that good as last years. First of all there was some kommuncation problems in our group, some didn't come and the cohesion wasn't that good. But over all I think it went good, we got all the information about the party and etc. so we knew what we had to do.
The last week before GGC I did our trailer, it's my first one but I think it's quite good acctually, I used After Affects to do the trailer. Here's the trailer:
Sorry.
I'm so sorry for being forgetful about this blog, I don't have anything I can publish for the latest weeks. I've been working with Unity and Camtasia and some small jobs.
But right now I'm focusing on our level, I'm decorating it with our props. I'm also importing all the textures and props to Unity so our programmers have access to it right away! My other mission is to do our trailer, so right now I'm trying to record a video so I can start edit it, so there's alot to do until Friday, but we're going to make it!
Update.
This week I will also start to learn a program I'm going to use to do our trailer, I hope I will learn it fast so the trailer will be complete and hopefully a nice!
This is a spotlight i made in Maya, I didn't apply any materials etc. because the graphics will fix it!
The final group logotype.
Some other logotypes I made:
Logo.
This have been taking alot of my time and I'm not even finished, so that's what I have been working with today.
Busy day.
There haven't been so much for me to do the last week, but today I started helping a little bit with the 3D. I did a lion cage in Maya, I'm really happy with it. It turned out better then I thought! But we don't know if we can export it to Unity yet but I hope so!
Here we go again.
I have also been doing a soundlist for our soundguy, it contained what kind of sounds we want in the game. I did some moodboards too, so he should know what kind of feeling I want to convey in the levels.
First day of the blog.
I have also been doing my own and the groups blog, so we can start bloging, but some of the layout is just temporary. I'm going to fix a better layout when we have more pictures to use!
I've been starting a list of all the sound we need to our game, i'ts quite difficult to know wich sounds we're going to use when we don't have a demo yet.. but I'm on my way..
